Project N.E.W.T.O.N
Discover how the Project N.E.W.T.O.N Programme nurtures high-ability learners into confident thinkers, effective communicators and responsible digital users.
Project N.E.W.T.O.N
Project Nurturing Excellence With Thinkers, Orators and Digital Natives (Project N.E.W.T.O.N) is Dazhong Primary School’s signature Talent Development Programme in the Academic Domain. It is designed to nurture high-ability learners into confident thinkers, effective communicators and responsible digital users.
Aligned with our school’s focus on Embracing All Learners: Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners, the programme provides enriched learning experiences beyond the core curriculum. These experiences support both students’ academic growth and character development.
Key Approaches
Project N.E.W.T.O.N adopts a blend of inquiry-based learning, problem-solving and design thinking to develop students as Thinkers, Orators and Digital Natives through engaging and meaningful learning experiences.
Thinkers
Students explore real-world questions, analyse ideas and solve problems through inquiry and creative thinking.
Orators
Students are given opportunities to share their ideas, take part in discussions and present confidently to an audience.
Digital Natives
Students use technology purposefully to research, create and collaborate while learning to do so responsibly.
Through student-centred and differentiated activities, students take ownership of their learning and apply their skills to authentic, real-world tasks.
Milestone Programmes
Project N.E.W.T.O.N offers students meaningful opportunities to explore their interests, strengthen their talents and grow their confidence through a range of school programmes. These programmes allow students to learn beyond the regular curriculum, work with their peers, and develop important skills for the future.
Milestone Programmes
Subject | Programme | Overview |
English Language | Reading Circles (RC) | RC aims to engage advanced readers to help them extend their experience of the world through exposure to a range of age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction texts. Through discussions, they share their views, make connections with the stories and ideas, and develop their capacity for imagination, perspective-taking and empathy. |
English Language | Explorations & Inquiry (E&I) | Selected activities are carried out during English lessons to help students explore how language is used in different situations. For example, students learn how sports commentaries are written and delivered to inform, engage and capture the excitement of live action. |
English Language | Debate | Students develop their confidence in speaking and presenting their ideas. Through debate activities, they learn to organise their thoughts, support their views with reasons and evidence, and respond respectfully to different perspectives. |
Mathematics | Excellence 2000 (E2K) Mathematics | Students take part in mathematical puzzles, games and explorations that encourage them to think deeply, reason logically and explain their ideas clearly. |
Mathematics | Mathematics Olympiads / Competitions | Students are given opportunities to take part in Mathematics competitions such as RMO, APMOPS, NMOS, RV STEM and PMPC. These platforms allow them to challenge themselves and further develop their problem-solving skills. |
Science | Excellence 2000 (E2K) Science | Students explore Science concepts through hands-on investigations and inquiry-based activities. These experiences help them think like young scientists as they observe, question, investigate and explain their findings. |
Science | Science Olympiads / Competitions | Students are given opportunities to participate in Science competitions such as the Raffles Science Olympiad and Singapore Primary Science Olympiad (SPSO). These platforms allow students to extend their interest in Science and apply their knowledge and thinking skills to challenging problems. |
Mother Tongue Language | Higher Chinese Language Stretch Programme | High-ability Chinese Language learners are stretched beyond the regular curriculum through the creation of audio and digital picture books. Students conduct sustainability-related inquiry, plan and write persuasive narratives, create audio or digital picture books, and showcase their completed works to an authentic audience. |
Applied Learning Programme | Greenovators@Dazhong | Students apply coding, robotics and design thinking to create solutions linked to sustainability. Through projects such as designing Smart Homes, they learn how technology can be used to care for the environment. |
